I have to disagree with the person who told you to aim for the bull when shooting triple 20's. This may be a quick fix for your situation, but in the long run, I think you should train yourself to hit the target that you're actually aiming for. I've had similar problems to the one you've described. What worked for me was an evaluation of my grip, which resulted in me completely changing the way I've griped the dart. If you notice that you naturally put your fingers more underneath the barrel, this could be a direct cause of your aiming high. Try gripping the dart with your index finger a little closer to the top of the barrel. This added pressure from above should keep the dart from flying higher than you're aiming. Keep in mind that there is really no correct way to hold a dart (Phil Taylor's pencil grip for example...completely unorthodox, but undeniably successful). If your grip already puts plenty of pressure on the top of the dart, then you probably have a tendency to release too early, which just needs work. Even if you have to spend plenty of practice sessions accidentally hitting low of your target, this seems to be a necessary stage in learning the mechanics of the release. Because there seems to be no single correct way of doing anything in darts, my overall advice is to keep working at it and experiment until you get it right. Also, don't lower your stance if it makes you uncomfortable. If you're uncomfortable in your stance, I highly doubt that you'll ever attain the level you want to be at. Good luck, and keep us posted on your results.
