I don't know if this thread is asking for people to introduce themselves or not, but I read it that way so if I can introduce myself properly.
My name is Barry French, an excitable 20 year old from Birmingham in the UK. I am a dart newbie (playing for 6 weeks) so I can't give a massive profile like Alan has done.
I got into the game of darts many a year ago, watching the BDO dart finals between Burnett & Barneveld, Burnett and Beaton (my dad looks like Beaton!) then stopped watching the darts on TV. I had a burning ambition to be known in the world of sport, so started playing pool. Got to the age of 15 and could hit 50+ breaks in snooker, then all of a sudden I stopped playing as I was getting bullied in pool halls (jealousy). I decided to wait till I was older to learn a new sport. 6 Weeks ago, the world of darts came back to rock me and make me the happiest I've been in a long time. Being a drummer requires me to have good rhythm and good coordination with the hands and feet, so darts was the suitable game for me. And how right I was, after 3 weeks of playing I hit my first 180 - which got me into the Nechells & District league for the Red Lion 'A' team. Unfortunately the 3 league games I've played I've lost 2-1. One of the losses came against a County player, and the other 2 were down to inexperience in the 3rd leg. The team have so far been supportive, and since I have won my last 2 outings in friendly matches (2-1 and 3-0 respectively). It was an honour to be asked to play with people who've been on the circuit for average of 10yrs, ahead of people on the 'B' team.
The only disadvantage I've had is that I play more matchplay than practise, as I haven't got a board at home. Despite my dad being a great player in his time he doesn't support my enthusiasm to develop in the sport and therefore won't let me have a board in the house. He doesn't want me to waste my life away by playing county 5 nights a week. This annoys me greatly as i feel I have great potential, otherwise I wouldnt get into an A team and have the B team moaning about 'stealing the best players'
I'm sorry I can't offer a more detailed history as I've only been playing 6 weeks...but watch this space :-)

P.S I've learned some vital tips from Karlheinz, and want to thank him for this in a most sincere manner.
I use 27g Unicorn darts with short stems and personalised flights from B & W Darts.
