what's the damage? dust / dirt or mold?
in case of mold you should dump the board.
for dust / dirt, at first see how far you get with a vacuum cleaner. for the rest, you can try a MOIST (not wet!) cloth with pure warm water.
there should be no danger removing the colors, but if you wet the board too much you ruin it.
i don't know how a board reacts to soap etc., but this should be the last thing to try, if everything else fails.
