So you're making the move to retractable point darts...congrats. Now to decide what kind of darts to buy, how much to spend and which ones will be best for "Your Game".
If at all possible go to a dart dealer in your area and TRY various models, throw the darts of a friend with whom you play or even ask others for their opinion like you've done here.
I can honestly say that I own both HammerHeads and also Voks Helix darts. My Voks are the Jim Watkins Series and weigh 23 grams. My HammerHeads are 25 grams and they are Edge Grips. Why both you ask...I've found that several bars in my area have ceiling fans, which can NOT beturned off even for league play due to lack of Smoke Exhaust fans. Depending on the bar and the fan speed I throw a heavier dart with Nylon shafts. If the breeze is not problematic and doesn't effect dart flight I prefer to use the Voks Helix darts with DynaStar shafts and flights.
I like the HammerHead darts because they are a very solid dart to shoot with, but much prefer the moving point mechanism on the Voks Dart. The HammerHead point simply retracts during dart flight and the weight is supposed to push the dart into the board instead of into a scoring place on the bar carpet. The Voks moveable point not only retracts, but it turns or spins giving it what the company calls coaxial rotation. The name is fancy, but to me it simply means a more reliable point mechanism.
In all honesty, since switching to the Voks Darts I might have dropped 10 darts on the floor since November on last year. With the Hammerhead darts since December of last year maybe 16 or 18 bounce outs.
Look at the prices, Voks JW Series Helix are presently available for clearance from them directly for $35 a set and they are 90+ percent Tungsten. Hammerheads are about 90% Tungsten and usually sell for slightly higher prices. As for the replacement parts, I've not had to buy any for my HammerHeads thus far, but did purchase new tips for my Voks Darts, by CHOICE...not because they were bad or worn out. I decided to shoot with an inch and a half tip insted of a one inch tip. Those replacement tips were about $12 for 3 tips with the springs included.
The Voks are slightly more difficult to maintain, sharpening is somewhat of a nusiance, tips are not perfectly rounded, yet flattened slightly on one side, whereas the HammerHeads are easily and quickly sharpened with any sharpening stone. To sharpen my Voks I use a dremel tool for precision.
I hope some of this information is of help to you. Keep in mind that great dart deals exist on ebay FREQUENTLY...check there often once you know what you truly want.

in case you need to check them out.
As for the Smart Darts, I'm presently looking into those myself. Have to call Vermont in the morning when I get home from work.
Shoot a Good Game,

: I've been playing with fixed point darts for 2 years now and considering movable points. Looked at Hammerheads and powerpoints. Found threads in this site about VOKS and, Smart Darts? Can you tell me anything about smart darts because my local dealer has not heard of nor carry them. Hammer heads are the most used in my league but I Know that the clips break off.
: Do smart darts have clips too? Would appriciate hearing from movable point shooters who are experienced with any of the various brands. Thanks. Great Site!!
